This policy explains what the Discussed extension reads, where data is sent, and what is stored in your browser.

Discussed finds Hacker News, Reddit, and Lobsters discussions about the page you are viewing. It can also summarize those discussions when you request it.
Page URLs
By default, Discussed searches for related discussions each time a page finishes loading. It first normalizes the page URL, removing tracking parameters such as utm_source and fbclid.
The normalized URL is sent directly from your browser to the Hacker News Algolia API and Reddit. Lobsters receives only the page's domain. Each enabled source is queried for every page that is searched; there is no local pre-check that skips requests.
Discussion data
Titles, scores, comment counts, and comments returned by discussion services are processed by the extension. Discussion results are cached in browser storage for the configured cache duration.
Page content and AI summaries
Only when you click Summarize, Discussed may read the current page's article text and comments on supported sites. This does not run automatically when a page loads.
Discussion comments and any extracted page text are sent directly from your browser to the LLM provider you configured. Your API key is stored in browser storage and is sent only to that provider, never to Discussed. Generated summaries are cached locally for seven days.

Data collection
Discussed has no backend server or user accounts and does not send personal data to Discussed. The extension contains no analytics, tracking, or telemetry. The third-party requests described above go directly from your browser to those services.
Local storage and control
Your API key is kept in local browser storage and is never synced. Other settings, including the domain filter, are kept in browser sync storage, so if you use your browser's sync feature they are synced across your devices through your browser vendor's sync service.
Discussion cache duration is configurable. Summaries are retained for seven days, and settings and API keys remain until you remove them or uninstall the extension. You can disable discussion sources and use the domain filter to control where automatic searches run.
Removing the extension clears its local storage, including cached discussions, summaries, and your API key. Settings kept in sync storage are managed by your browser's sync service and may remain in your browser account after the extension is removed.
